Hey Guys The Media Reviewer Here and it’s #SharkWeek is this week and I’m here to review one of the most successful critically hated movies in history Shark Tale. This movie was not only a box office success but got a Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature! It was next to two better movie Shrek 2 and The Incredibles. There were much better movies and it will always be known as an Oscar nominated movie. So let’s get into the review.

The Story

The movie is about a fish named Oscar who lives in Reef City and works at the Whale Wash. He always tries to be rich and make schemes to get that. But when he owes 5,000 clams to his boss Sykes who is a pufferfish. When he gets tied up a Shark named Lenny who is a vegetarian and Frank who is his brother tries to eat Oscar but gets hit by an anchor and Oscar is mistakenly credited into killing Frankie and gets his wish to be rich and famous with a nickname known as the Shark slayer and Lenny wants to get away from his father Don and his family heritage. Angie who has a crush on Oscar finds out and now he has to try to fight Don Lino and not be known as a phony.

My Thoughts

Okay, where do I start? The story is so predictable that it’s one of if not the most predictable DreamWorks animated movies in the company’s history. This films plot is so shallow and so bland. I hate the lie and reveal story of Oscar becoming the Shark slayer and what he message of the movie is follow your dreams but it’s worse than all the movies with this type of plot. Also the movie is so slow it feels like it takes forever to finish because it’s so bad and unbearable. You already know that he obviously gets rich for lying and he has to face a Shark who is the father of the Shark he “killed” and needs to fight him after he “killed” Lenny. It weirdly also is like a fish version of The Godfather because of some of the scenes with the sharks and Don Lino and the voice actors of the sharks is like the mob boss and it makes so little sense to me. I’ve got to talk about the characters. Oscar has to be one of the worst main protagonists in history of animated movies he is so selfish (no pun intended) and someone helps him with paying the loan and just doesn’t care about anyone but himself we already knows he changes but it’s a movie just forget about what he did before, Lenny is the vegetarian Shark that does not kill animals to help them escape from Sharks he honestly isn’t the worst character but his voice is so annoying ( I’ll talk about the voice acting later) and we will see this type of characters in other movies later on, Angie who has a crush on Oscar is actually the best character in the movie because she helps a jerk like Oscar with giving him one of her most prized possessions to help him pay off Sykes but that obviously didn’t happen and at least has patience for this douchebag, Sykes is the owner of the Whale Wash who actually has a few pretty good lines and I like him better than other characters in my opinion, two jellyfish characters named Ernie and Bernie who work for Sykes to leave Oscar for dead I wish that would’ve happened, Don Lino is the father of Franky and Lenny and is the leader of the Shark fan that tries to kill Oscar for what happened to Franky he is just okay. The jokes and puns are some of the worst I’ve seen in animated movies like the puns of celebrity names and using fish puns at every opportunity it gets and it’s so unfunny. The Animation is the cherry on top to make it the worst DreamWorks movies in history with the animation and designs looking so ugly and so unwatchable. The designs of the fishes are so ugly and a bit disturbing to make them look like their respective voice actors. The backgrounds are not terrible actually but the city’s ads distract me so much when we see it. The character animation is not half bad there are some good character animations but there are better character animations from other movies. DreamWorks does a better job than this and it’s disappointing that the animation had to not be good in this movie. The Voice acting is not that good Will Smith as Oscar is not good because he is nice Oscar is not, Jack Black doesn’t do a good job as Lenny but he’ll do better things later on, Renee Zellweger as Angie she does an average job, Robert De Niro as Don Lino is fine, and other voice actors are either annoying or average. This movie is definitely the worst movie from DreamWorks Animation with a terrible story, sub par animation, mostly weak characters, and not that good voice acting.
