Hey guys Hotel Transylvania 3 just came out and I’ll review it this week. But let’s have a look of where it all began with the first Hotel Transylvania movie.
The Story
The story is about a Hotel full of monsters built by the notorious Dracula. He builds he hotel when something unfortunate happens in his life and wants to protect Mavis from humans because of what happened to his wife. Mavis who is Dracula’s daughter wants to see what it’s like outside the hotel but Dracula is scared to put his daughter at risk to humans. Now a human named Johnny accidentally went into the hotel and find out about where the monsters are and Dracula tries to make him leave while at the same time Johnny falls in love with Mavis. Now Drac and the gang which has Frankenstein, Murray the Mummy, Wayne the Werewolf, and Griffin the Invisible Man try to become scary and relevant again.
My Thoughts
Okay the movie has some great things and some not so great things. So let’s start of with the cons parts of the story is so generic like Mavis wants to go outside of the hotel and be out there in the world which has been done before by Disney, A few jokes don’t land, Johnny could be annoying, Quasimodo is a weak bad guy, the dead mother thing has been done before but at least it adds to the whole purpose behind Hotel Transylvania, and some characters are either pointless or annoying. Now I could talk about the positives Like the animation is really great and give out great expressions it could give to the characters. The animation also gives out great looking textures and some colorful to atmospheric backgrounds. The designs of the monsters are creative and look amazing to me. The humans are a mix some look bland and others look fine. But it shows how much creativity they put in the film when it comes to the animation thanks to the director of the movie Genndy Tartakovsky and the team at Sony Pictures Animation. The film also has great comedy and great dialogue from the characters and references to pop culture. Most of the jokes are great and Adam Sandler probably wrote most of the jokes along with the team of writers. The twilight was one of my favorite jokes in the movie. Some of the characters like Dracula, Frankenstein, Wayne, Murray, and Griffin give out laughs and are entertaining characters. Others like Mavis, Johnny, and Quasimodo are either bland or idiotic. Every Voice actor gives a good performance. I think the best performance is from Adam Sandler as Dracula and is way better than Davey from Eight Crazy Nights. Adam Sandler does a great job as a caring father and could make me laugh with his performance as Dracula. This might not be what people wanted with the Universal Movie Monsters but it is well worth it to see it for its Humor, Animation, Voice Acting, and some memorable characters. Even though the story is weak it is still an enjoyable movie and it shows that a movie doesn’t have to be a masterpiece in order to be enjoyable.
So Overall I’d give Hotel Transylvania A:
