The Media Reviewer #2: Hotel Transylvania 2

Hello guys it’s The Media Reviewer with another review and I’m here to review the 2nd movie in the Hotel Transylvania franchise.

The Story

The story is about the newly wedded Johnny and Mavis having a kid named Dennis. But when he is born Dracula wants Dennis to be a vampire to keep his monster herritage running. While that’s happening Mavis wants Dennis to move away from the hotel to have a normal life because she thinks Dennis is actually full human because his fangs hadn’t came out yet and Dennis with Dracula and his friends try to make Dennis’s fangs come out and not movie to California with Johnny’s family. While that happens Mavis discovers what it is outside the Hotel gets attached to the outside world and Johnny tries to help out Dracula and convince her to stay at Hotel Transylvania and live with Dracula and friends. When Dracula’s dad Vlad gets invited to Dennis’s birthday party everything does not go to plan. Will Dracula convince Mavis? Will he try to make Dennis a vampire? Will Vlad be upset? I think you would know the answer to that.

My Thoughts

Okay I think this film is a little bit weaker than the first movie. The plot is more predictable than the first one with the writing being a bit lazy and could be bland. I mean sure it’s heart is in the right place with the message of family but it could be preachy about it. I’m going to talk about the new characters Dennis is a mix for me I think that he is just a character to make people say awwwww on the other hand at least he does some important stuff in the movie. The main antagonist Bela is Vlad’s servant who wants to get rid of humans and Dennis he was put as he main antagonist in the last minute so we could have a bad guy. Then there is Vlad Dracula’s father honestly is wasted here I mean sure he helps out in the end but they brought in the great Mel Brooks to voice this character and completely puts him aside. Sure Vlad has funny lines but I just think the movie should’ve used him more. The characters that we know like Dracula is still funny and a good character but the could be annoying in a few scenes. Johnny is better here than in the first one he has funny moments but he could be an idiot at times. Mavis is taking the role of Dracula as the overprotective parent trying to make Dennis happy and not force him to be something she’s not she is better than in the first movie also but she’s still not as interesting. The rest of the Drac pack still have funny moments of their own. The animation is better than in the first one with better textures and lighting in the characters. The movements of the characters are still fun to look at and are greatly animated from the team at Sony Pictures Animation. The designs of the humans are better than in the first with more creative design choices and the monsters are greatly designed with different colors, bodies, shapes, sizes, and more. The humor of the movie is still pretty good but there are some unfunny immature jokes here and there. The voice acting is amazing from the cast here quick note though Keegan-Michael Key replaces Ce Lo Green as Murray the Mummy and he is a perfect replacement I really didn’t notice the change of his voice when I first watched this movie. Anyways Adam Sandler still does a great job as Dracula. The rest of the cast still do a good job voicing their respective characters. It might be a bit weaker than the first movie it is still enjoyable though. The story is weak some characters are not that memorable and could be predictable. This movie is not good nor its bad but it’s meh

.

So overall I’d give this movie a:
Reel Decision
